about

A song about another day for Australia that avoids everything except mateship and inclusion.

lyrics

May 8 © 2017 Roo Friend APRA

Ma-ate…it’s the perfect excuse to tear down a fence, and ma-ate…there isn’t much chance of giving any offense
Do you know what I’m talking about?

And mate I love history and public holidays and flags just like any other man, and mate what exactly is the social benefit of the the 26th of Jan?
A little mateship and kindness can go a long long way, and that’s why May the 8th could be such a very special day

This is a song about another day for Australia, yeah don’t get me wrong I’m not saying the other’s a failure
But May the 8th is a date with opportunity, for shared culture shared action shared dreams for you and me

Ma-ate I’m sometimes proud and even sentimental , but mate rubbing salt in the wound has gotta be mental
And mate I love tradition and I love this country but its going astray, so I say mate if we want something beautiful then build it together today

This is a song about another day for Australia yeah don’t get me wrong I’m not saying the other’s a failure
But May the 8th is a date with opportunity for shared culture shared action shared dreams for you and me

Mate let’s put the heart back in this country cos mate its time to look forward to re-imagine our world
And mate don’t trust politicians it’s time to take responsibility
For our peace of mind peace in the streets and for a peaceful community
